With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the Kirby and Miller families, along with friends and members of the Hidalgo, Illinois community, are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Lily Tru Kirby Miller, age 22, who passed away on July 5, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital. Her unexpected passing has left a deep void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her, as they remember a young woman whose kindness, compassion, and love touched countless lives.
Lily was born on July 4, 2004, in Mattoon, Illinois, to Jason Kirby and Amanda (Rohr) Thompson. She later married the love of her life, Shayden Miller, on February 4, 2023. To those closest to her, Lily was more than a beloved daughter, wife, sister, and friend—she was a source of warmth, joy, and unconditional love.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Lily often say that to know her was to love her. She was recognized for her gentle heart, compassionate spirit, and the genuine care she showed toward everyone around her. Her kindness was not just something she expressed in words; it was something she lived every day through her actions.
Lily dedicated much of her time to caring for others, including her work at a nursing home where she made it her mission to ensure every resident felt seen, valued, and loved. She had a special gift for creating connections and making people feel less alone. Her compassion extended beyond people as well, as she was known for her love of animals and her involvement with Saved by Grace Animal Rescue. Lily worked tirelessly to help stray animals find safe and loving homes, reflecting the caring heart that defined her life.
Her family and friends will forever remember her bright personality, beautiful smile, and the happiness she brought into every moment. Lily loved the color yellow, a reflection of the warmth and brightness she carried within herself. She chose the song “Yellow” by Coldplay as the song she walked down the aisle to, creating a memory her loved ones will treasure forever.
To her husband Shayden, Lily was his “Honey-Hun,” a name that represented the deep love and affection they shared. Their bond was a beautiful reminder of the love, devotion, and companionship she valued so deeply.
Lily leaves behind a lasting legacy built on love. She is survived by her loving husband, Shayden Miller; her parents, Amanda (Morris) Thompson and Jason (Lynn) Kirby; Amber Jensen, Arnold Miller; siblings Bryar Hardesty, Jessica Kirby, Devin (PJ) Kirby, Michael Gibbs, Jamie Kirby, Emily (Terry) Threlkeld, and Colton (Celina) Smith; sister-in-law Samantha (Bryson) Cameron; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will continue to honor her memory.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jay Gibbs; grandparents James Kirby Sr., Judy Rohr, and Flora Anne Kirby; uncle Adam Kirby; and grandmother-in-law Deanna Phelps.
Lily’s family will honor her life with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Schilling Funeral Home, with Pastor Ron Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow at Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
