LAKE GENEVA, WISCONSIN — A family and community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Caleb Oswald, 6, and Abigail Oswald, 7, who tragically died alongside another child after a boat capsized during severe weather on Lake Geneva over the Fourth of July weekend.

The siblings from Wheaton, Illinois, lost their lives on July 3, 2026, after a sudden and powerful storm struck the lake. According to loved ones, the family was attempting to return to shore when the unexpected weather caused their boat to capsize. Although the children were wearing life jackets, they became trapped inside the cabin of the boat.

The devastating accident prompted a large emergency response, with multiple people rescued from the water following the severe storm. The loss of Caleb, Abigail, and another 10-year-old child has left both families and the wider community heartbroken.

Loved ones have asked for prayers and support as they navigate an unimaginable loss. In honor of Caleb and Abigail, the Oswald family established a fundraiser that will not benefit the family directly but will instead be donated to a children’s charity to continue the siblings’ legacy of kindness and compassion.

Caleb was remembered as a joyful child with a sweet heart and a smile that could brighten any room. He loved music and would often ask Alexa to play his favorite songs, filling moments with dancing, singing, and happiness. He also had a fascination with trucks and enjoyed learning about and playing with vehicles of all kinds. Caleb’s family shared that he loved Chick-fil-A and would happily tell others about his dream of working there someday.

Abigail was described as a bright, funny, and caring young girl with a personality that brought joy to everyone around her. She loved swimming, dancing, and making others laugh with her quick sense of humor. Abigail had a deep love for helping others and dreamed of becoming a teacher so she could inspire and support children.

The siblings shared a special bond and were described as best friends who filled their home with laughter, music, hugs, and love. Their family said Caleb and Abigail were deeply loved by relatives, friends, teachers, and everyone fortunate enough to know them.

As the community continues to grieve, many are remembering the children not only for the tragedy of their passing but for the happiness and love they brought into the world during their short lives.

The Oswald family hopes Caleb and Abigail’s memory will continue to create a positive impact by helping other children and families in need. Through acts of kindness and generosity, their legacy will continue to shine.
